7/3/08 Homegrown

I was only supposed to be at work for about 2 hours, but ended up staying half the day. This was after a hell 2-weeks of ten to eleven hours a day. Finally finished up everything and was heading out of the building, when I ran into Lew at the top of the stairwell. He handed me a grocery bag with his homegrown tomatoes. (Karma) Sooo awesome. I knew exactly what we’re having for dinner that night.

I planted some basil seeds a while ago. Since I had not been successful in my previous attempts, Jon and I were both skeptical. The seeds actually germinated this time, and real plants appeared. And on this fateful day, my homegrown basil will mingle with the karmic tomatoes I brought home. Of course, to complete the holy trinity, I will use up the last of the elephant garlic I bought at Casa de Fruta.

In the veggie box

Red, White, and Bloothie

In honor of 4th of July, I made a red, white, and blue smoothie. Strawberries, blueberries, white peach and banana (with a splash of orange juice). It was really good. (sorry this sounds like a book report. I'll try to use more compound sentences next time)

Kale...not a biggie in the I-talian foodie lexicon. It's rumored to be a superfood, though eventually everything will be in order to sell it. Thanks for the Simple Green factoid. I use it because it's Muffin-safe, natch. Btw, I'm praying that a meteor wipes out all the other teams in the NL West so that the Padres may have a chance to contend. Should make finding seats in August pretty easy, though.
